State-recognised & institutionally accredited
We plan, teach and assess in accordance with certified processes and place great emphasis on the quality of teaching and research. As a private university, we are proud that, thanks to these achievements, we have been awarded institutional accreditation, which is granted by the Science Council of the Federal Republic of Germany following a rigorous quality assurance process. This institutional accreditation forms the basis for state recognition. Particular emphasis was placed on the high academic, practical and pedagogical qualifications of the professors and all other lecturers at the FHM. The excellent facilities also played a role in the award. The FHM was the first university in East Westphalia-Lippe to receive institutional accreditation back in 2007. This was followed by successful re-accreditation in October 2017.
System accreditation of all degree programmes
Since July 2019, FHM has held the System Accreditation Seal, awarded by the FIBAA accreditation agency in accordance with the guidelines of the Accreditation Council, thanks to our certified, structured processes. This seal enables us to carry out the accreditation of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in-house – this guarantees us the flexible development and rapid implementation of suitable programmes and ensures that all our students’ qualifications are recognised by the state. With a Bachelor’s degree from FHM, students can therefore, for example, go on to complete a Master’s degree anywhere. The certification of our degree programmes is a multi-stage process. Those involved in the system accreditation include students, external academic experts, representatives from the professional sector and graduates. The system accreditation was most recently successfully completed on 9 July 2019 with the seal of the Accreditation Council.
Certification of continuing education programmes at the FHM
The recognition of continuing education programmes in vocational training by independent bodies is becoming increasingly important to participants. For this reason, the FHM regularly undergoes institutional certification by Certqua for its continuing education programmes, thereby guaranteeing all participants the highest quality standards for their vocational training.
CHE University Ranking
The CHE University Ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of German universities and universities of applied sciences. The FHM achieved a very good result in the independent CHE University Ranking, which this time focused on business degree programmes, and received top marks for its BA in Business Administration and BSc in Business Psychology programmes. Particular praise was given to the digital teaching elements, the practical focus of the teaching and the organisation of examinations.
Best Business School in the Deutschland-Test
FHM is Germany’s best business school – this is the conclusion of a recent independent survey commissioned by FOCUS Money Deutschland-Test and conducted in 2025 by the Cologne-based analysis and consultancy firm ServiceValue. The online survey is based on a total of 37,000 customer reviews of 292 educational providers. The providers were categorised into 18 categories.
Top distance learning providers on FernstudiumCheck
According to FernstudiumCheck, the University of Applied Sciences for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises is one of the top distance learning providers in the German-speaking world in 2026. The award is presented annually by the comparison portal. In a comprehensive analysis of 12,238 reviews from 2025, based on 395 providers, we were recognised for our outstanding content, flexibility and value for money.

According to a recent survey by StudyCHECK, FHM students particularly appreciate the course content, the lecturers and the quality of teaching here at FHM. In previous surveys, FHM ranked second in terms of value for money. Currently, 83 per cent of our students would recommend FHM to others.
