Green Innovation in the Fashion Industry Management

GIF

The EU Green Deal is an ambitious plan that will have an impact on society and the economy in the EU over the next few years. Successful implementation requires the active involvement of citizens, organizations and various interest groups in order to raise knowledge, skills and awareness of "green" issues. The spectrum of topics is broad and ranges from climate and food to pollution from mobility, construction and the textile industry.

The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, accounting for an estimated 5-10 % of total CO2 emissions. In recent years, steps have been taken at European level to better tackle this problem through the use of new sustainable materials, green energy and education. Most manufacturers in the textile sector are SMEs, most of which are still traditionally run and have grown strongly due to the massive demand for fast fashion textile products.

Goals and contents

With this in mind, the project team has set itself an ambitious goal based on the EU's Green Deal, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions in the textile sector in the long term. The aim is to provide companies and educational institutions with tools that can be used to make the industry more environmentally friendly. This is of fundamental importance for the future of the European Union and the achievement of its sustainable development goals for 2050.

The project team will establish a GIF competence framework and develop online training courses and a "training kit" for the development of new approaches and ideas for a "greener" textile sector. Among other things, the training courses will demonstrate how to reduce emissions and pollution through innovative and non-standardized approaches. Through best practices, innovative green initiatives, multiplier events and the exchange of information and excellence in the sector, successes and changes in thinking and action will be achieved.

Project Results

The ERASMUS project Green Innovation in Fashion Management (GIF) has produced two important outcomes to help address the fashion industry's sustainability challenges.

  1. The GIF Competency Framework has been developed to provide managers, fashion and textile industry professionals, trainers, researchers and academics with a clear framework for identifying training needs and designing training
  2. The main objectives of this framework are to standardize competencies, provide transparency and clarity in requirements, assessment and development of skills, recruitment and selection of professionals, and performance management

The project developed the GIF Competence Framework:

  • The GIF Competence Framework, which is available for free download, serves as an important tool for addressing the sustainability challenges in the fashion industry and provides a clear roadmap for competence development and identification.

  • With its focus on standardizing skills, clarifying roles and promoting continuous improvement, this framework plays a central role in promoting training and professional development within a sustainable fashion industry and evaluation.

The GIF Short Learning Program was developed as part of the project:

  • The (free) Short Learning Program consists of ten (10) units in a total of three (3) modules.
  • The core element of each unit is video lectures combined with practical exercises, such as self-assessments, homework, simulations and case studies.

  • All learning videos are recorded in English, but can also be viewed with subtitles in German, Spanish, Greek, Romanian and Italian.
  • The SLP can be found at the following link: https://gif.uninettuno.it/en/gif.aspx
  • To access the program, you must register on the platform.

The manual is available in 4 languages. You can access the interactive flipbook here:
