Supporting SME Sustainable Packaging Transformation

PackLess

The European Commission aims to implement the jointly adopted Circular Economy Action Plan by 2050. This action plan is one of the key building blocks of the European Green Deal - Europe's new agenda for sustainable growth. With measures covering the entire life cycle of products, the new action plan aims to prepare the economy for a green future, strengthen the EU's competitiveness while protecting the environment and introducing new rights for consumers. The issue of sustainable packaging will be central to this.

Goals and contents

In the EU-funded PackLess project, the consortium aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in switching to sustainable packaging. PackLess aims to find out what SMEs are lacking and what challenges they face on their way to more sustainable packaging practices.

To achieve this goal, the project team is initially conducting a survey in all four countries. The resulting information will be incorporated and considered in the course of the project in order to produce the following project results:

  • PackLess MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which will be a publicly accessible learning resource for SMEs providing information, knowledge and exercises regarding the transition to circular and environmentally friendly packaging.
  • A collection of success stories and examples of good practice that highlight the opportunities and barriers to green transformation in the packaging sector.
